Milton Glaser: ART IS WORK

This is the first time that a selection of original posters signed by one of the greatest designers of the 20th century can be seen in the Republic of Moldova, as part of the Creative Industries Festival, organised by the Creative Industries Centre Artcor.

The story of this project begins with Mirko Ilić, a world-renowned designer and illustrator, and one of Milton Glaser’s closest friends over the last twenty years. Mirko Ilić donated this exceptional collection to the archive and museum Typopassage in Timișoara.

In 2024, invited as a speaker at the Creative Industries Festival, he put us in touch with Ovidiu Hrin from Typopassage™—and that is where it all began.

We tried last year. We tried again this year. Several times, we came close to giving up. And yet, it is happening.

Milton Glaser is the personification of American graphic design. Known worldwide for co-founding New York Magazine and for the “I ❤ NY” campaign, he forever changed the way graphic art communicates with its audience.

The exhibition brings together nearly 50 original posters, selected from more than 400 created throughout his remarkable career, and represents Act III of a curatorial project coordinated by Ovidiu Hrin (Typopassage™). It is an absolute first for Moldova.

Glaser’s posters do not decorate spaces; they speak. They bring the joy of shapes and colours, intelligent humour and brilliant ideas distilled to their essence. They reconnect the viewer with the emotion of beauty and with what it means to pursue exceptional craftsmanship in the service of a deeply humanistic visual language.

The project is curated together with the Typopassage Timișoara team — Silvia Hrin, Ana Gabriela, Iulia Corneci, Gabriela Grozavu, The Orion and Sorin Andrei — and was made possible in the Republic of Moldova thanks to the Association of Creative Companies COR, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova and the National Art Museum of Moldova.
