International Museum Day and European Night of Museums 2026

23 May 2026 | 13:30–24:00

On 23 May 2026, the National Art Museum of Moldova marked International Museum Day and the European Night of Museums, now in its 22nd edition, with an extensive cultural programme held from 13:30 to midnight.

The event, an initiative launched by the French Ministry of Culture and organised under the patronage of the Council of Europe, UNESCO and ICOM, was held this year under the theme “Museums Unite a Divided World.” The theme highlighted the essential role of museums as living spaces for dialogue, learning and connection between generations, cultures and communities.

Throughout the evening, visitors had the opportunity to explore the museum’s permanent collections of National and Universal Art, as well as its temporary exhibitions, including the commemorative exhibition dedicated to Eleonora Romanescu and the exhibition of visual artist Māris Čačka.

The cultural programme featured a series of musical performances and recitals by students, teachers and invited artists from artistic education institutions and cultural organisations across the Republic of Moldova. Piano, violin, accordion, trumpet, saxophone, wind instruments and choral performances filled the museum spaces, transforming the institution into a vibrant cultural stage.

A special part of the programme was dedicated to interactive workshops for children, teenagers and adults, offering participants the opportunity to explore a variety of artistic techniques and forms of creative expression, including origami, water marbling, jewellery making, ikebana, experimental calligraphy, linocut, painting, photography and henna art.

Through the diversity of activities, the event created a space where art, education and community came together, reaffirming the museum’s role as an accessible cultural institution and a platform for dialogue and connection.

The National Art Museum of Moldova extends its sincere thanks to all visitors, artists, teachers, students, workshop moderators and partners who contributed to the success of this year’s European Night of Museums.

The event was supported by IT company Hot Software, to whom we express our sincere gratitude for their partnership and support.
