100 Beste Plakate 19 is an exhibition resulting from a competition, which reflects a multi-faceted poster culture in these three countries, where the poster design is studied at a high level and has gained notoriety over the years.

The history of the competition begins in 1966, when for the first time the best posters of the year in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) were designated and exhibited. In 1980 the contest received the title of "100 Best Plated".

Subsequently, due to intensive international efforts, an association of the same name was founded by a group interested in graphic art and graphic design in Germany, Austria and Switzerland in order to increase public interest in quality graphic design, in particular , that of the poster. The first edition that marks this collaboration in the German-speaking space takes place in 2002.
Over the years, the competition has gained increasing international interest, with the exhibition traveling to various cities around the world.

The selection of 2019 includes 100 best posters: 45 - Germany, 52 - Switzerland, 3 - Austria, selected and awarded by an international jury of experts.

They are classified into 3 categories:
A - 84 - Advertising posters in the fields of economics, culture and society.
B - 3 - self-promotion, author or experiment posters.
C - 13 - posters made by students under the guidance of the school / university.

In total, 684 people with 2,247 posters participated in the contest.
The exhibition was presented in the cities of Berlin, Essen, St. Gallen, Luzern, Seoul, Vienna and many other locations, reaching Chisinau.

The posters selected in the competition are later included in the collection of the Deutsches Plakat Museum in Essen and MAK - Museum of Applied Arts in Austria.

The composition of this year's jury: Julia Kahl (Slanted, D-Karlsruhe, chair of the jury), Michel Bouvet (F-Paris), Benjamin Buchegger (Studio Beton, A-Wien), Götz Gramlich (gggrafik, D-Heidelberg) and Isabel Seiffert (Offshore Studio, CH-Zurich)
